In this position you will probably have seen that the white Knight is in the way.
White's Queen is dying to go to h6, however, white has to be careful not to be mated on g2 after
moving his knight... Yugoslav champion Markovic (2540) found the precise answer in his game against
Drasko (2515):
1.Rg3! preventing the black King from escaping to f8 via g7 after Nxf7+. 1... Bd5 this allows black to keep an eye on h6. (alternative defenses: 1... Rg7 2.Ne4 Bd5 (2... Rh7 3.Qg5 Bd5 Nd6) 3.Nf6 Rh7 4.Qg5 Qc8 5.Ne8! with a double mating attack...) 2.e6! regaining control over h6 and now also e5. 2... Bxe6 3.Qe5+ 1-0 |
